There are many different types of coffee drinks that you can get and figuring out the differences between them can be a challenge.

This post will show you the differences between mocha and latte, how they taste, the forms that you can get them in and drinks that are similar to them.

So, what is the difference between mocha and latte? Latte is where a lot of steamed milk and a small amount of milk foam is added to espresso. Mocha is where steamed milk and chocolate syrup is added to espresso.

There are actually a number of factors that will impact the way that they taste and there are a number of drinks that are similar to them.

Differences between mocha and latte

Below, I will show you the differences between mocha and latte, how they are made, how they taste, related questions people ask about them and similar drinks to them.

Latte

Latte is where a lot of steamed milk and a small amount of milk foam is added to espresso. It has a creamy taste with a small coffee-like taste as well.

It can be made with any type of milk and the type of milk used to make it will have an impact on the way that it tastes. If whole milk is used then it will likely give it a creamier taste.

What is espresso?

Espresso is the mixture that results from mixing pressurized hot water with ground coffee. It is dense, strong, rich and slightly bitter.

It also has a “Crema” on top which is a foamy substance that is very bitter. Some people like it while others prefer to remove it with a spoon.

There are three main ways to make espresso and they are to either use a traditional espresso machine, a pod machine or to use a stovetop espresso machine.

To make espresso with a traditional machine you will need to get the coffee beans, grind them, press them into a container, put the container into the machine and then to turn the machine on.

Here is a video showing how to make espresso with a traditional espresso machine.

The issues with traditional espresso machines are that they can have a steep learning curve, require the most amount of work on your part and they require the most amount of cleaning.

However, if you want to make the best tasting espresso that you possibly can then it will be necessary for you to use a traditional espresso machine.

The espresso machine that I would recommend the most would be this one on Amazon. It also allows you to make coffee with it so it will make it more likely that you will get full use out of it.

To make espresso with a pod espresso machine all you need to do is to get the pod flavor that you like put it into the machine and then to press a button.

Pod style machines don’t give you a lot of control over the way that the espresso tastes. However, there are lots of different pod flavors that you can choose from so it is likely that you will be able to find at least one flavor that you like.

The pod espresso machine that I would recommend the most would be this one on Amazon mainly because it also allows you to make other types of coffee drinks including regular coffee.

To make espresso with a stovetop espresso maker you need to put water into the espresso maker and then to put the coffee ground in a container above the water. You then heat up the espresso maker and steam will mix with the coffee and espresso will be filtered out.

The video below shows how to make espresso using a stovetop espresso maker.

Stovetop espresso machines are the cheapest option so they are ideal for when you are not sure whether or not you would get full use out of an espresso machine or a pod machine.

However, the espresso that they make will not be of the same quality that you can get from a traditional espresso machine and they require more work than pod style machines.

The stovetop espresso machine that I would recommend the most would be this one on Amazon.

What impacts the way that latte tastes

There are a number of things that will impact the way that latte tastes.

The type of beans used to make the espresso will be a big factor. If the beans are from a single origin then it will normally give the espresso a much more distinct flavor but it can often cause it to taste more sour. While if the beans are from a number of different origins then it will normally give it a more balanced taste.

The type of roast of the beans will also impact the way that the latte tastes. If the beans have a light roast it will normally cause the espresso to be more sour and a dark roast will normally make it taste more bitter. However, the effect won’t be as pronounced with the latte since you will be adding milk to it.

The grind used to make the espresso will also impact the taste of the latte. The finer the grind used the more bitter the espresso will be. This is because a very fine grind will cause the water to take longer to pass through it so more coffee will mix with the water.

Similar drinks

There are a number of drinks that are similar to latte but are not quite the same.

One of those drinks is cappuccino. This is where an equal amount of steamed milk and milk foam are added to espresso. Cappuccino is different to latte in that, with latte, more steamed milk is used and less milk foam. Cappuccino will normally have a stronger coffee taste while latte will be creamier.

Another similar drink is the breve which is espresso with half and half whipped cream and steamed milk added to it. Breve actually has a creamier taste than latte due to the higher fat content in the whipped cream.
