When it comes to making an Americano with a Nespresso machine it will be necessary for you to make the Espresso using a pod for the machine and then to add hot water after the espresso has been made. The VertuoLine machines have the option to do this automatically.
With that being the case, you won’t likely see a noticeable difference in terms of the taste of the Americano between the different machines.
However, it’s important to note that the VertuoLine and the OriginalLine take different capsules and they both have a different range of flavors to choose from. So, a big factor in making your decision will be in deciding between a VertuoLine machine and an OriginalLine machine.
The VertuoLine machines will only work with VertuoLine pods made by Nespresso but the OriginalLine machines will work with OriginalLine pods and other third-party pods as well.

Nespresso VertuoPlus Coffee & Espresso Machine
The VertuoPlus gives you the option to make 2 longer coffees or a regular espresso with a single touch of a button.
This means that if your goal is to make an Americano with this machine then it will likely be very easy to do so especially if you like long Americano.
It has a heating time of 20-25 seconds and it automatically shuts off after 9 minutes of not being used.
It is a medium-sized machine with a weight of 9.72 Ib so it shouldn’t cause significant spacing issues in your kitchen. If space is an issue then I would recommend that you consider the Inissia or the Citiz unless you particularly want a VertuoLine model.
The VertuoPlus is a VertuoLine model so it uses the VertuoLine capsules. These capsules are only made by Nespresso so they will be slightly more expensive than the OriginalLine capsules. However, they allow for the VertuoPlus to have more functionality and the barcodes on them will actually tell the machine exactly how to brew them.

Nespresso Pixie Espresso Machine
The Pixie gives you the option to make either espresso or lungo coffee automatically.
If you want to make an Americano with this machine then it will be necessary for you to make an espresso and then to add water to it after. Not too difficult but it is something to consider.
The pre-heating time is 30 seconds so and it features a very compact design that is light. This means that if space is an issue then this will still be a good machine to make espresso and Americano without too much effort.
The Pixie is from the OriginalLine so it uses the OriginalLine pods. This means that it will be less expensive to run and there will be a wider range of flavors to choose from especially if you also consider third-party pod makers.
However, the VertuoLine also has a lot of flavors to choose from and they will also add the water to the espresso for you automatically. So, if you want to make Americano as easily as possible then it would likely be a better idea to go for a VertuoLine model.

Nespresso CitiZ Espresso Machine
The Citiz is quite similar to the Pixie described above.
It features a compact design, it is light weight, it lets you program either espresso or lungo sizes, it has a 25 second heating time and it features an easy insertion system.
It is an OriginalLine machine so, as mentioned above, it will be cheaper to run and there will be a wider range of options available.
However, for you to make an Americano with it then it will be necessary for you to add the water to the espresso yourself manually. So, if you expect that you will be making a lot of Americano then it would likely be better for you to opt for a VertuoLine model.

Nespresso Essenza Mini Espresso Machine
If space is going to be an issue for you then the well received Essenza mini would likely be the best option for you.
It is 8.1” H x 4.3” W x 12.8” D and it weighs just 5.1 Ib so if you expect to be moving it around a lot then it shouldn’t be too difficult to take this machine with you.
It can make both espresso and lungo. However, if you want to make an Americano then it will be necessary for you to add water to the espresso yourself.
It is an OriginalLine model so it will have a wider range of flavors available and you can also buy third party capsules to use with it so it should be cheaper to run than a VertuoLine model.

Nespresso Vertuo Coffee & Espresso Machine
The Vertuo coffee and espresso machine by DeLonghi comes with 5 programmable coffee sizes which are Alto Coffee (14 oz), Coffee (8oz), Gran Lungo (5 oz), Double Espresso (2.7 oz) and Espresso (1.35 oz).
This means that if making an Americano is important for you then it will be easier for you to do so with this machine where you won’t need to add the water, to the espresso, yourself manually.
The machine is 12.2” H x 9” W x 12.3” D and weighs 11 Ib so it isn’t as small as some of the OriginalLine models. However, it isn’t too big and it allows for it to come with a more features than the OriginalLine models.
The Vertuo is from the VertuoLine so it will only work with VertuoLine pods made by Nespresso. This means that the Vertuo will be more expensive to run than the OriginalLine models.
However, the VertuoLine pods come with a barcode that tells the machine exactly how to make that particular espresso so it will mean that there will be less work on your part.

The Inissia is a very popular machine made by Nespresso.
It makes either lungo or espresso with one touch, it is small and weighs 5.29 Ib and it has a quick heating time of 25 seconds.
It uses the OriginalLine pods so it will also be cheaper to run since you will also have the option to use third-party pods with it.
However, you will need to add water to the espresso yourself in order to make Americano. If you think that you will be making a lot of Americano then consider looking at one of the VertuoLine models since they will add the water for you.
